Obama schedules news conference

President Barack Obama has scheduled a news conference for Wednesday morning, his first full formal news session with the press since March.

Obama will answer questions in the midst of his debt and budget negotiations with Congress.

Obama has had more limited question-and-answer sessions with reporters during his recent European trip and during a session with German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier this month.

The budget negotiations are sure to dominate the conference, though the U.S. role in Libya and the drawdown of forces in Afghanistan are likely topics as well.

The White House wants a deal on the budget that includes new tax revenues, a proposal Republicans have opposed. Republicans want an agreement to reduce long-term deficits by at least $2 trillion before agreeing to increase the nation's borrowing limit.
