A White House official is telling The Associated Press that Vice President Joe Biden will be on hand in Chicago on Monday when former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is sworn in as the city's newest mayor.
Emanuel served from the beginning of the Obama administration until late last year, when he returned home to run for what he had described as his dream job. The opportunity arose when longtime Mayor Richard Daley announced he was stepping down after more than two decades in office.
President Barack Obama has scheduled a trip to Memphis, Tenn., on Monday to deliver a high school commencement address.
The White House official asked not to be identified because Biden's schedule for Monday has not been publicly announced.
