President Barack Obama has tapped a top fundraiser now serving as ambassador to Sweden to be his 2012 campaign finance chairman.
Matthew Barzun will take the post held by Chicago businesswoman Penny Pritzker in Obama's 2008 campaign. The Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks campaign spending, says Barzun raised at least $687,000 for that race.
Obama named Barzun ambassador to Sweden in 2009. He previously served as an executive at the CNET media company and other Internet startups.
Barzun posted on the embassy blog Friday that he would return to the U.S. at the end of May to take the new position.
News of the appointment was first reported by The Boston Globe.
