WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Senate Democrats on Friday unveiled a budget proposal that cuts $6 billion from current spending but protects President Barack Obama's healthcare overhaul and other priorities.

Democrats are responding to a plan that passed the Republican-controlled House of Representatives that would cut $61 billion in the current fiscal year, which would translate into an average reduction of 25 percent for domestic discretionary programs.
