WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will host Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at the White House next week.
Liberia is among the West African countries hard hit by the Ebola outbreak. In a statement, the White House says Obama and Sirleaf will discuss the ongoing Ebola response and the region's economic recovery plans during their Feb. 27 meeting.
Ebola has killed more than 3,800 people in Liberia, as well as thousands more in Guinea and Sierra Leone.
However, significant gains have been made against Ebola, and now only a small number of cases remain in Liberia.
The U.S. is preparing to withdraw nearly all of the nearly 3,000 troops dispatched to West Africa last year to help combat the outbreak.
