Third-party candidate Tom Tancredo has been camping in Colorado Springs in recent days, courting members of his former party and trashing his two gubernatorial opponents. Asked Tuesday why he’s here so often, he offers a simple reason: “They’re called Republicans.”

Tancredo says his only chance to win the governor’s race is to be more Republican than his GOP opponent, businessman Dan Maes. And Republicans are welcoming Tancredo.

“I think it is very clear that Republicans have come to identify Tom Tancredo as the Republican candidate,” Republican state Attorney General John Suthers, who is neutral in the governor’s race, said Tuesday after his campaign crossed paths with the third-party sensation.
