NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The inaugural Essence Festival in Durban, South Africa, will be held in November.
Essence President Michelle Ebanks says the dates are Nov. 8-13, which falls during South Africa's summer season.
The new weeklong event will present international performers and speakers to entertain and inspire as well as local artists and experts. It will also spark discussions to support small businesses through empowerment seminars across various sectors, including career guidance workshops and other initiatives aimed at youth.
Essence Festival Durban will follow the format of the annual New Orleans event scheduled June 30-July 3, with activities during the day and night.
A list of performers and other participants has not yet been released. Festival organizers say they're still finalizing programming, but stay tuned.
