NEW YORK (AP) — The world premiere of "MotherStruck!" — a play written and performed by Staceyann Chin — has been cancelled just two day before it was to start performances downtown.
Allan Buchman, the artistic director of the off-Broadway company Culture Project, said Tuesday that the play — directed by Cynthia Nixon and produced with help from Rosie O'Donnell — would not go on as planned, citing a lack of resources to produce it "in the manner in which it deserves."
The play is about a lesbian activist's journey to single motherhood. Chin made a name for herself with HBO's Def Poetry Jam series, solo performances across the country and her memoir, "The Other Side of Paradise."
