Frank Langella to return to Broadway in 'The Father'

NEW YORK (AP) — Frank Langella will return to Broadway next spring in the American premiere of "The Father," a new play by Florian Zeller.

Manhattan Theatre Club said Tuesday the three-time Tony Award-winning actor will star in the dark comedy about an elderly man with dementia and his daughter, who is balancing the need to care for him with the demands of her own life and relationship.

Winner of the 2014 Molière award for France's best play, it's translated by Christopher Hampton and played Bath in England and then London's Tricycle Theatre. It begins previews March 22 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.

Langella has played Dracula, Sherlock Holmes, Sir Thomas More and Richard Nixon onstage and was last on Broadway in 2012 in Terence Rattigan's "Man and Boy."
