PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Newport Folk Festival is headed west.
The producers of the iconic music event announced Monday that they'll present a two-day festival on the Santa Monica Pier Oct. 5 and 6.
Known as Newport Folk Presents Way Over Yonder, the event will feature performances from Conor Oberst, Neko Case and several other performers playing on two stages on the pier in Santa Monica, Calif., the seaside tourist mecca adjacent to Los Angeles.
The Newport Folk Festival has experienced a resurgence in recent years. This year's festival in July sold out five months in advance. The festival was first held in 1959 and has boasted lineups featuring Joan Baez, Pete Seeger and Johnny Cash. Bob Dylan was famously booed at the 1965 festival during his first electric live show.
