National Book Festival celebrates 13th year in DC

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 100 authors are coming together in Washington for the National Book Festival on the National Mall in Washington.

The 13th annual festival runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5:30 p.m. The free event includes book signings, author talks and other events.

Authors presenting at the festival Saturday include former Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, "The Handmaid's Tale" author Margaret Atwood and U.S. poet laureate Natasha Tretheway. On Sunday, the lineup includes journalist Evan Thomas, "The Kite Runner" author Khaled Hosseini and chef and now children's book author Giada De Laurentiis.

An estimated 210,000 people attended the festival in 2012.
