LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Adult thriller "Contraband" landed on top of weekend box office charts with $24.1 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales, studio estimates released on Sunday showed.
"Contraband," starring Mark Wahlberg, beat a 3D remake of Walt Disney Co animated classic "Beauty and the Beast," which brought in $18.5 million from Friday through Sunday.
Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" ended the weekend in third place with $11.5 million.
Universal Pictures, a unit of Comcast Corp, released "Contraband." "Mission: Impossible" was distributed by Paramount Pictures, a unit of Viacom Inc.
