A giant painting by a Russian artist has fetched more than $3.1 million at auction in New York City.
The "Pearl Mosque at Delhi" painting was sold Tuesday at a Sotheby's auction of Russian art.
The painting is 13 feet (3.9 meters) high by 16 feet (4.8 meters) wide. It was done between 1876 and 1879. It shows men kneeling at an Indian mosque.
It was offered by the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and had a presale estimate of $3 million to $5 million.
The auction house says the proceeds will benefit the museum's acquisition fund.
The painting is by artist Vasili Vasilievich Vereshchagin. It's from his Indian series and is considered one of his most significant works to appear at auction in more than 100 years.
