AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Grammy-winning blues musician Joe Willie "Pinetop" Perkins died on Monday at his Austin home, according to his manager. Perkins was 97.
"He went to take a nap and didn't wake up," said the manager, Patricia Morgan. "He died peacefully in his sleep."
Perkins became the oldest Grammy-winner ever when he won this year for best traditional blues album for "Joined at the Hip: Pinetop Perkins & Willie 'Big Eyes' Smith." He also won a 2007 Grammy and was presented with a 2005 lifetime achievement Grammy.
Perkins will be laid to rest in his native Mississippi, Morgan said.
