Turkey president in Uganda, starting 2-nation African tour

KAMPALA, Uganda (AP) — Turkey's President Recep Teyyep Edorgan is in Uganda to promote trade and tourism opportunities between the two countries.

Edorgan who is on a two-day visit was welcomed by Ugandan Minister of Foreign Affairs Sam Kutesa at Uganda's Entebbe International Airport Tuesday night.

Ugandan officials said Edorgan and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni are holding bilateral talks on Wednesday and will sign cooperation agreements on tourism, defense, immigration and education.

Uganda is hoping to increase the number of tourists visiting the country from 1.5 million to at least 4 million in the next five years through promotion of its safaris in the East African country.

Erdogan is also scheduled to visit neighboring Kenya.
