INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Health insurer Anthem is changing chief financial officers as it works to close its $48 billion purchase of rival health insurer Cigna.
The Blue Cross-Blue Shield insurer said Wednesday that John E. Gallina will become executive vice president and chief financial officer starting next month. He replaces Wayne S. DeVeydt, whom the company said is leaving to spend more time with his family and do charitable work.
Gallina has been with Anthem Inc. since 1994 and currently serves as CFO for the Indianapolis insurer's commercial and specialty business division.
DeVeydt has served as CFO since 2007. Anthem's website says he also serves on the board of governors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Anthem expects to close the Cigna Corp. deal in the second half of this year.
