U.S. stocks closed sharply higher Wednesday, giving the stock market its best day in close to four years. The Dow Jones industrial average climbed 619 points, or 4 percent. Stocks rebounded from a six-day slump that was prompted by concerns about the health of the Chinese economy.

The Dow gained 619.07 points, or 4 percent, to 16,285.51.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 72.90 points, or 3.9 percent, to 1,940.51.
The Nasdaq composite added 191.05 points, or 4.2 percent, to 4,697.54.

The Dow is down 174.24 points, or 1.1 percent.
The S&P 500 index is down 30.38 points, or 1.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 8.50 points, or 0.2 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 1,537.56 points, or 8.6 percent.
The S&P 500 index is down 118.39 points, or 5.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 38.52 points, or 0.8 percent.
