Media companies led a broad decline on the stock market Thursday as investors worried about fading revenue from cable television. MTV owner Viacom sank 14 percent Thursday and 21st Century Fox fell 6 percent. Disney, which owns ESPN, fell 2 percent.

The Dow Jones industrial average lost 120.72 points, or 0.7 percent, to 17,419.75.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 16.28 points, or 0.8 percent, to 2,083.56.
The Nasdaq composite declined 83.50 points, or 1.6 percent, to 5,056.44.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down 270.11 points, or 1.5 percent.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index is down 20.28 points, or 1 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is down 71.84 points, or 1.4 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 403.32 points, or 2.3 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 24.66 points, or 1.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 320.39 points, or 6.8 percent.
