U.S. stocks closed mostly higher Wednesday, driven by better company earnings, but a slump in oil prices and a slide in Disney held the market's gains back.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 6.52 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,099.84.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 34.40 points, or 0.7 percent, to 5,139.94.

The Dow Jones industrial average is down 149.39 points, or 0.8 percent.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index is down 4 points, or 0.2 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 11.66 points, or 0.2 percent.
