U.S. stocks closed slightly higher on Monday after several companies reported solid earnings. Toymaker Hasbro and the oil and gas company Halliburton rose after delivering results that were better than analysts were expecting.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 13.96, or 0.1 percent, to close at 18,100.41.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 1.64, or 0.1 percent, to 2,128.28.
The Nasdaq composite gained 8.72, or 0.2 percent, to 5,218.86.
For the year:
The Dow is up 277.34 points, or 1.6 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 69.38 points, or 3.4 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 482.80 points, or 10.2 percent.
