U.S. stocks ended lower Friday, shedding some of the gains that pushed the Nasdaq composite index to a record level a day earlier.
An impasse in talks aimed at securing a new bailout for Greece and worries about a stock bubble in China weighed on the market.
For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 99.89 points, or 0.6 percent, to 18,015.95.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 11.25 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,109.99.
The Nasdaq declined 15.95 points, or 0.3 percent, to 5,117.
For the week:
The Dow is up 117.11 points, or 0.7 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 15.88 points, or 0.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 65.90 points, or 1.3 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 192.88 points, or 1.1 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 51.09 points, or 2.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 380.95 points, or 8 percent.
