Stocks rose Monday on Wall Street at the beginning of a slow holiday week. Apple led technology stocks higher with a gain of 4 percent after striking a deal to bring the iPhone to China Mobile, the world's largest cell phone carrier.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 73.47 points, or 0.5 percent, to 16,294.61.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 9.67 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,827.99.
The Nasdaq composite added 44.16 points, or 1.1 percent, to 4,148.90.
For the year so far:
The Dow is up 3,190.47 points, or 24.4 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 401.80 points, or 28.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 1,129.39 points, or 37.4 percent.
