How the Dow Jones industrial average did Friday

An unexpectedly strong report on U.S. economic growth pushed stocks higher Friday, capping off Wall Street's best week in three months.

The report showed the U.S. economy grew at a healthy 4.1 percent annual pace between July and September, the latest positive piece of economic data investors have gotten in recent weeks.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 42.06 points, or 0.3 percent, to 16,221.14.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 8.72 points, or 0.5 percent, to 1,818.32.

The Nasdaq composite added 46.61 points, or 1.2 percent, to 4,104.74.

For the week:

The Dow rose 465.78 points, or 3 percent.

The S&P 500 rose 43 points, or 2.4 percent.

The Nasdaq rose 103.77 points, or 2.6 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 3,117 points, or 23.8 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 392.13 points, or 27.5 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 1,085.23 points, or 35.9 percent.
