Stocks edged higher for a second day on Thursday, as some positive news for the U.S. economy outweighed worries about Syria.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 16.44 points, or 0.1 percent, to close at 14,840.95.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 3.21 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,638.17.
The Nasdaq composite rose 26.95 points, or 0.8 percent, to 3,620.30.
For the week:
The Dow is down 169.56 points, or 1.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 25.33 points, or 1.5 percent.
The Nasdaq has lost 37.49 points, or 1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,736.81 points, or 13.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 211.98 points, or 14.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 600.79 points, or 19.9 percent.
