The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index were stuck in a summer lull on Monday. The Nasdaq composite got a lift from Apple, which rose after a technology blog reported that the company planned to unveil the latest version of the iPhone Sept. 10.
The Dow fell 5.83 points, or 0.04 percent, to 15,419.68.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 1.95 points, or 0.1 percent, to 1,689.47.
The Nasdaq composite rose 9.84 points, or 0.3 percent, to 3,669.95.
For the year:
The Dow is up 2,315.54 points, or 17.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 263.28 points, or 18.5 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 650.44 points, or 21.5 percent.
