U.S. stocks headed lower on Friday, a quiet day that marked the end of a ho-hum week. All three major indexes also closed lower for the week. For the Dow Jones industrial average, it was the first losing week after six weeks of gains.
The Dow fell 72.81 points, or 0.5 percent, to 15,425.51.
The Standard & Poor's 500 fell 6.06 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,691.42.
The Nasdaq composite fell 9.02 points, or 0.3 percent, to 3,660.11.
For the week:
The Dow lost 232.85 points, or 1.5 percent.
The S&P 500 lost 18.25 points, or 1.1 percent.
The Nasdaq composite lost 29.48 points, or 0.8 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 2,321.37 points, or 17.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 265.23 points, or 18.6 percent.
The Nasdaq composite is up 640.60 points, or 21.2 percent.
