Stocks edged mostly higher on Tuesday after several companies turned in solid earnings. Goodyear Tire & Rubber jumped after its earnings more than doubled. Pitney Bowes and Eastman Chemical also rose after reporting higher earnings.
The Dow Jones industrial average slipped 1.38 point, or 0.01 percent, to close at 15,520.59.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index edged up 0.63 of a point, or 0.04 percent, to 1,685.96.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 17.33 points, or 0.5 percent, to 3,616.47.

The Dow is down 38.24 points, or 0.2 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 5.69 points, or 0.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 3.31 points, or 0.09 percent.
