The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 index fell Monday as investors waited for a batch of important economic reports later in the week. The government will report its first estimate of U.S. economic growth for the second quarter on Wednesday, and on Friday it will publish its monthly jobs survey.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 36.86 points, or 0.2 percent, to close at 15,521.97.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 6.32 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,685.33.
The Nasdaq composite index declined 14.02 points, or 0.4 percent, to 3,599.14.
For the year so far:
The Dow is up 2,417.83 points, or 18.5 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 259.14 points, or 18.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 579.63 points, or 19.2 percent.
