HUNGER TO SPEND: Higher movie marketing expenses drove a $44.2 million loss for Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. in the quarter. Good thing spending was mainly for "The Hunger Games," a hugely popular blockbuster that grossed nearly $700 million.

TAKE TWO: Because of splits with theater owners and marketing costs, CEO Jon Feltheimer says two-thirds of the profits on "The Hunger Games" is still to come. DVD sales start Aug. 18.

NEAT BEAT: Revenue surged 81 percent to $471.8 million, beating analysts' expectations. Movie ticket sales of "The Hunger Games" helped a fivefold increase in theatrical revenue to $138 million.
