Stocks slipped Wednesday on concerns about Europe. The finance minister of Cyprus said that country may need its own bailout before the week is over, and Greece holds elections Sunday that will be key to determining whether it stays in the euro.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell 77.42 points, or 0.6 percent, to 12,496.38.
The Standard & Poor's 500 fell 9.30 points, or 0.7 percent, to 1,314.88.
The Nasdaq composite index fell 24.46 points, or 0.9 percent, to 2,818.61.

The Dow is down 57.82 points, or 0.5 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 10.78 points, or 0.8 percent.
The Nasdaq is down 39.81 points, or 1.4 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 278.82 points, or 2.3 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 57.28 points, or 4.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 213.46 points, or 8.2 percent.
