U.S. stock indexes closed slightly higher Tuesday, a small point of relief for investors who have watched the market plunge over the past month.
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 26.49 points, or 0.2 percent, to 12,127.95.
The Standard & Poor's 500 rose 7.32 points, or 0.6 percent, to 1,285.50.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 18.10 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,778.11.
For the week:
The Dow is up 9.38 points, or 0.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 7.46 points, or 0.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 30.63 points, or 1.1 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is down 89.61 points, or 0.7 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 27.90 points, or 2.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 172.96 points, or 6.6 percent.
