UK's Cameron holds meeting about eurozone crisis

Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron has met with top economic officials to discuss the financial crisis in the neighboring eurozone.

Cameron's office said in a statement the prime minister met for an hour Monday with Bank of England Governor Mervyn King and Treasury chief George Osborne.

The statement said the gathering was "long planned" as part of a series of meetings to ensure the U.K. is prepared to deal with developments in the eurozone crisis.

Cameron has recently urged the 17-country eurozone to stand behind its currency. A breakup would destabilize global markets, including Britain, which is not part of the bloc.

Financial Services Authority Chairman Adair Turner and deputy prime minister Nick Clegg also attended the meeting, the statement said, without providing detail on what was discussed.
