THE RESULTS: Deutsche Telekom's profit fell 50 percent to (EURO)238 million ($308 million), largely because of a one-time charge for early retirements. Revenue fell 1 percent to (EURO)14.43 billion.
U.S. DIVISION: Operating profit in the U.S. unit, T-Mobile USA, rose 13 percent to (EURO)1.0 billion, while revenue rose 2 percent in euro terms. But when measured in dollars, earnings rose 8 percent and revenue fell 2 percent.
DETAILS: Business in Europe was stable. In the U.S., demand was stronger from prepaid customers, offsetting a drop in contract-based plans. The company is working on upgrading the T-Mobile brand.
