Here are a some websites that offer discounts on tickets for Major League Baseball games and other sporting events:
_ ScoreBig.com: Launched early last year. Based in Los Angeles. Guarantees at least 10 percent off retail price on the tickets it offers and savings of up to 70 percent. Offers tickets for all major sports, concerts and other events from brokers, teams, corporate clients and others.
Users set the price they're willing to pay for seats in a given section of a stadium or arena. If their offer meets the seller's reserve price, which is not disclosed, the sale goes through. One caveat: You won't know exactly what seats you have until the sale is finalized.
Set e-mail alerts for games you'd like to attend. When thinking about how much to offer, keep in mind that as the supply of tickets for a given game gets bought up, the size of the discount may shrink. On the other hand, the savings may increase as one gets closer to the game if tickets aren't selling. Look at what other buyers have saved as a guide, but choose well, as users are allowed to make a single offer on a given tier of tickets every 24 hours.
_ Crowdseats.com: Launched last August. Based in Burbank, Calif. Advertises tickets for as much as 90 percent off face value. The site gets a 25 percent cut of each ticket sold, but does not charge buyers any fees. Offers tickets for sporting events in Los Angeles, New York, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco, and expects to be in 25 U.S. markets over the next 12 months.
Sign up for Crowdseats e-mails and look for deals to pop up between one to two weeks in advance of a game.
_ Goldstar.com: Based in Pasadena, Calif. Generally offers a 50 percent discount off the retail price on tickets for concerts, musicals and pro sporting events in more than two dozen metropolitan areas. Gets tickets from teams, venues and production companies, and tacks on a $5.50 fee to each ticket sold.
Tickets are advertised on the site around two to three weeks before the events take place. Goldstar doesn't provide the exact seat assignment, only the section where the seats are located.
The company currently works with around 15 to 20 teams in baseball, hockey and basketball, and fewer NFL teams.
