METALS HEAT UP: The price of copper climbed, along with prices for silver, palladium, platinum and gold. Traders seemed encouraged by a report that U.S. manufacturing grew at a faster pace in March than in February.
OIL RISES: The manufacturing report also pushed benchmark crude higher, up $2.21 to $105.23 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
CORN CLIMBS: Corn rose 1.7 percent, or 11 cents, to $6.55 per bushel. That followed a 6.6 percent jump on Friday, after the government reported that corn stockpiles were lower than expected.
