Stocks climbed Monday following signals from the Federal Reserve that it plans to continue propping up the economy. It was a turnaround from last week, when the Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 both fell.
The Dow rose 160.90 points, or 1.2 percent, to 13,241.63.
The S&P 500 rose 19.40 points, or 1.4 percent, to 1,416.51.
The Nasdaq composite index rose 54.65 points, or 1.8 percent, to 3,122.57.
For the year:
The Dow is up 1,024.07 points, or 8.4 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 158.91 points, or 12.6 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 517.42 points, or 19.9 percent.
