Stocks closed slightly higher Friday at end of a week marked with positive economic news from the U.S. but also worsening prospects of a slowdown in Asia and Europe.
The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 34.59 points, or 0.3 percent, at 13,080.73.
Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 4.33 points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,397.11.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 4.60 points, or 0.1 percent, to 3,067.92.

The Dow is down 151.89 points, or 1.1 percent.
The S&P 500 is down 7.06 points, or 0.5 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 12.66, or 0.4 percent.
For the year:
The Dow is up 863.17, or 7.16 percent.
The S&P 500 is up 139.51, or 11.19 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 462.77, or 17.8 percent.
