Louisiana is opening a new tax-free shopping refund center at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
The center is part of the renovation of the main ticket lobby at the Kenner airport. The new location moves it closer to two concourses from which most international flights take off.
Under the tax-free shopping program, international visitors can make tax-free purchases at about 900 retailers in the state. They are given cash refunds of sales taxes on eligible purchases.
The new center is named in honor of Eugene Schreiber, who served as chairman of the program from its inception in 1988. Schreiber also served for 32 years as managing director of the World Trade Center of New Orleans before his retirement in 2010. He died last July.
