W.Va. firm lands $7.4M weather network contract

Global Science & Technology has won a $7.4 million federal contract to manage a network of weather observers who gather data to help improve forecasts of high-impact events.

Global Science & Technology will run the National Mesonet Program from its West Virginia office under a contract with the National Weather Service.

The newly formed alliance of companies and universities includes the two largest, privately owned fixed-station weather networks in the nation. It also includes networks run by universities in states that often have severe storms.

GST is headquartered in Greenbelt, Md., and has other offices in Virginia, North Carolina and Colorado.
