Ind. to offer grants for recycling businesses

Indiana will release a chunk of grant money to help recycling businesses.

The Recycling Market Development Program will give out $500,000 to help companies buy equipment for business recycling projects that reduce solid waste disposal and increase Indiana's ability to make and use recycled materials.

The program generated the money for the grants from a per-ton fee on solid waste disposal at Indiana landfills.

Indiana Environmental Management Commissioner Thomas Easterly says providing the grants to recycling businesses makes sense for both the environment and the economy.

Businesses have until June 11 to apply for the grants. The program will give out the money in August. The grants will range from $25,000 to $200,000 with a required 50 percent match.
