Union: Settlement in Cooper Tire lockout in Ohio

A union official says a tentative agreement has been reached with Cooper Tire to end a lockout in northwest Ohio that began in November.

Steelworkers local union President Rod Nelson says the agreement reached Thursday will be outlined for 1,000 members on Saturday. They will vote Monday at the union hall in Findlay.

He says the union won't disclose terms until members see the tentative agreement.

There was no immediate comment from the company. Messages were left at company offices.

In November, workers rejected a contract offer and said they were upset over proposed pay cuts and increased health care costs.

Cooper had told the union that it needed a competitive and cost-effective agreement to avoid simultaneous work stoppages in Findlay and Texarkana, Ark., where workers recently approved a contract.
