The Legislative Commission took no action on regulations sought by Nevada's secretary of state to eliminate a business license exemption for home-based limited liability and other corporations.
Secretary of State Ross Miller says an exemption from the $200 annual business fee is intended for people who sell such things as cookware or cosmetics from their home and make less than $27,000 a year. He says it wasn't intended for corporations.
He estimates 60,000 entities claim to be home-based businesses, and that the state is losing about $10 million annually.
A legislative subcommittee deferred action on the regulation in December, sending it to the full Legislative Commission on Wednesday.
But Republicans on the committee argued Miller was overstepping his authority and that the matter should be decided in the Legislature.
