American Airlines says two senior vice presidents are retiring from the company, which plans to lay off 13,000 workers in a bankruptcy reorganization.
The company said Wednesday that Peter Dolara and Thomas Del Valle will retire by June 30.
American says the changes will streamline management and reduce its "leadership team" to 10 executives. It was 14 before American and parent AMR Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection Nov. 29.
Dolara joined the company in 1971 and is responsible for operations in Mexico, the Caribbean and Latin America. Del Valle started in American's international division in 1989 and oversees airport services and cargo. American didn't give their ages.
Three other executives will take over their duties.
