North Dakota milk production down in quarter

North Dakota's milk production dropped 13 percent for the most recent quarter as fewer cows produced less milk compared to the same period in 2010.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the state produced 81 million pounds for last year's October-December quarter. This is 12 million pounds less than during the same period in 2010.

The average number of cows during this period was 18,000, which is down 1,000 from the previous quarter and a drop of 2,000 from the October-December quarter in the previous year.
