Coca-Cola plant in Ark. to lose production jobs

A Coca-Cola bottling plant in central Arkansas will get rid of nearly 50 production jobs as it ships bottling duties to facilities elsewhere in the state and in Texas.

Coca-Cola spokeswoman Luisa Casso said Wednesday that the Little Rock plant will lose 49 jobs as the company moves production work to facilities in West Memphis and Dallas.

Casso says Coca-Cola is trying to shift workers into other jobs at the Little Rock plant, which employs about 425 people. She says workers learned last week that the jobs would be eliminated effective March 30.

Coca-Cola Refreshments is the largest bottler and distributor of Coke products in the nation. Casso says the company is making changes to make production more efficient.

A bottling plant in Jonesboro also closed in 2010.
