An ex-LyondellBasell Industries manager in Texas has been sentenced to seven years in prison and ordered to repay $82 million over a kickbacks scheme.
A federal judge in Houston on Wednesday sentenced Jonathan Paul Barnes of Bellaire. Prosecutors say Barnes did marine chartering for Netherlands-based LyondellBasell, which cooperated in the investigation of overcharges for the cost of shipping oil.
Barnes last March pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, making a false statement in a passport application, bulk cash smuggling and conspiracy to engage in international money laundering.
Two oil traders, Bernard Langley of the United Kingdom and Clyde Meltzer of Livingston, N.J., pleaded guilty in October to conspiracy to engage in wire fraud. Both await sentencing.
