Va. regulators approve rate adjustment for APCo

Virginia regulators have approved Appalachian Power Co.'s request to recover more than $26 million in costs associated with acquiring and operating an Ohio power plant.

Appalachian Power is a unit of American Electric Power Co.

The State Corporation Commission said Tuesday that the rate adjustment will take effect for service starting March 1. It will increase the monthly bill of a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity by about $2.08.

APCo excpects to 580-megawatt, natural-gas fired Dresden Generating Plant in Dresden, Ohio, to begin commercial operations on or about Feb. 29.
