The mayor of Liberty, S.C. says a plant that makes denim fabric is closing for at least the rest of the year.
Mayor Michael Sheriff says Liberty Denim will stop production Friday.
Sheriff says he's tried to help the company find a buyer. He says he hopes the plant can reopen soon.
About 120 workers will be affected at the plant that had 230 workers shortly after it opened in 2002.
An employee, 41-year-old Lewis Smith II died in August when he fell into a machine at the plant. The company was cited for violations and fined more than $3,000 by state regulators. A human resources officer with the company said it would pay the fine and has fixed the problems that inspectors found.
