Summary Box: Gold falls on European crisis worries

GOLD DIP: Gold fell as the prospect of credit downgrades created more pressure for European leaders to agree on a plan to solve the region's financial crisis. Standard & Poor's warned that it might downgrade ratings for Europe's bailout fund and 15 countries that use the euro.

MIXED BAG: Other commodities were mixed primarily because of the unsettled situation in Europe. Energy and agriculture contracts were higher. Silver and palladium rose while copper and platinum fell.

WHAT'S NEXT: Many investors are awaiting the outcome of a summit Friday where European leaders will debate ways to restore confidence in the euro.
