EUROPEAN FACTOR: Commodities were mixed after the leaders of Germany and France unveiled a plan to bolster long-term confidence in the euro. The announcement came ahead of a summit Friday where European leaders will discuss the currency.
METALS MIX: Gold prices fell about 1 percent as investors grew hopeful that European Union leaders will be able to restore confidence in the euro. Silver and platinum also fell while copper and palladium rose.
JAVA JUMP: Coffee prices climbed about 3 percent on concerns that weather issues and production problems could hurt Colombia's crop.
